Salt Lake City has announced that they will meet the Kyoto target and reduce their emissions of global warming gases.

Salt Lake City Mayor Ross C. Anderson and his administration has set a goal for the Salt Lake City Corporation and the greater Salt Lake City community to reduce CO2 emissions by 7% or greater by 2008-2012.

Among the many action points include:

• new high performance building guidelines addressing energy efficiency, materials choice, waste reduction, and site consideration;
• expansion of the city light rail mass transit system; and
• retrofitting indoor and outdoor lighting with energy efficient bulbs.
